I have been appointed the Democratic Committee person of Ward 57-06 here in Philadelphia.  The beginning of a political dynasty that will rival the Kennedys.

The only bet you're really making is that inflation doesn't go to zero before next May. That's why you buy right after the reset if you ove the new rate.

If you buy at the end of the reset period, you've wasted six months of the holding period during the current high interest rate. If the rate drops to zero in May, because of the current underlying rate of 0%, you could sell and lose six months of interest. Or, keep them for six more months for zero interest and sell, cutting the effective interest rate in half. Half of 9.62% is still better than double what you can get from an FDIC bank. At least that's the way I understand it.

 Edit: You have to hold for a year, forfeit the last three months of interest. That means you only would get 3/4 of the first year's interest. Rough number $722 instead of $962, on the maximum $10,000 per individual limit. That's if inflation goes to Zero% because the underlying rate of the bond is 0%.

Oh, I understand all that. I wish I knew sooner about the I bonds since now I think it is a great place to park money that I am not sure to do something with. I do well in real estate so far.

I went to my first gathering of politicians tonight.... I think the next one I will bring my voting age grandkids to get them started. They would be a novelty
