I heard this rumor at the away from home terminal today. I was told that it was observed by someone from another crew who reported to the train. The crew told them they are going 30mph until they make it to the yard...... Just passing the rumor as I heard it....

Freddie if it is anything like BNSF , they digitally record all conversations and hold them for

thirty days in case anyone does or says something that they can get in trouble for...

I want to know what the detector at East Palestine said to cause the crew to go into emergency.

Probably not much because they reported the Undesired Emergency application occurred simultaneously with the HBD going off.

I don't know what it is now, but proving the crew responsible is worth $50 million to LAMCO. That was the 'deductible' for the catastrophic disaster pool the major railroads have/had. Human caused, they pay the deductible. Other failures, everybody shares the burden. This was a result of the 1986 Ricky Gates Conrail/Amtrak collision at Gunpow Chase, MD. It and Sturgeon, MO, Monsanto/N&W dioxin lawsuits showed the RR industry the weakness in the major catastrophe pool. M&W and LAMCO reported it in their annual reports for many years as a possible major liability to the continuation of the corporation. At least, that's what a scumbag claim agent told me when I was representing a guy who let his die-matic brake get over 400 Amps while negotiating a turnout in Downtown Mecca.

I doubt anyone would be dumb enough continue at 30mph with a hot bearing being reported, plus they were mostly a Key Train so the 30mph doesn't apply.

I'm not sure about bearings but the detectors don't report hot wheels, they send an email to someone sitting at a desk and eventually they radio you and tell you what to do.

I mentioned this before on the BNSF Scenic Sub (Seattle to Wenatchee) there are a couple "Warm bearing" detectors that are
silent to the train crew. BNSF has the "Warm Bearing Desk" that monitors this. Any problem the "Desk" notifies dispatcher and
the train is notified to stop and check whatever axel/axels are the problem.

LAMCO lawyers get something to do: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/norfolk-southern-stock-railorad-lawsuits-train-derailment/

I wonder how deep in the train that car that allegedly had a hotbox was.

Pipes, have you ever tried to see if the folks on that train are E'oed?

I can't tell, but it doesn't look like it.

I've got feelers out to find out who the LAMCO officials who couldn't even manage to appear by Zoom are. I mean, I understand that LAMCOPD might not be trained as well as everybody else they've hired recently. But, y'all can't even get a Zoom going?

We had once a coal train that broke an axle over a defect detector....at first it said..."you have a defect...dragging equipment near axle........" and then it counted and counted and counted...and said "too many defects to count, check entire train....defect detector dragging equipment detector not working....then defect detector not.....And then nothing; they found it smashed to bits under one of the overturned cars.

That would call for a "Critical Alarm", Jonny.
