South of Moab?

A Texas couple who narrowly survived after being stranded for six days on a desolate dirt road in southern Utah says they realized too late their GPS app was guiding them to the wrong spot.

KSL-TV reports that 78-year-old Helena Byler of Houston, Texas, said Friday that she sensed they were on the wrong road, but that her husband insisted on continuing.

"I told Gerry, 'Sweetheart, this doesn't sound right.' And he said, 'No it's OK' ... He wanted to continue. See, us women know better," she said, chuckling.

After popping a tire in their rental car and getting stuck, she says they realized the GPS app was leading them to Lake Powell trail, not the lake.

Helena Byler spoke at a hospital in St. George where her 76-year-old husband Gerald Byler is being treated in the neuro specialty rehabilitation unit.

They were found Oct. 2 by a rancher checking his cattle Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Sounds pretty close to scenes in National Lampoons "Vacation".

Most relaxing time Snippy ever spends on an airliner.... Last time, the gps in the iPad worked for location in Maps. Makes it more interesting.

Absolutely, always a window seat, right side of plane (left as you enter), please, both ways..... Right handed folk need that armrest.

My GPS worked sometimes and sometimes it didn't. Couldn't figure out why. It was cool seeing how fast the dot was moving across the map.
I wonder if you could set it up so it knows where you're heading.

I found an app called Avare, not sure how it calculates elevation. It's a little off, but if I put the phone on the floor it will go down 3ft.

What you're saying, in essence, is you've boarded a flight to somewhere... yet you really have NO idea where that plane is headed? Why are you even on that flight?

Perhaps the crew at bj.com should take out a group insurance policy on your ass Pipes, in case you don't return from one of your 'flights'! Just sayin... 'Cause something ain't quite right here!

I find it hard sitting there not knowing where we are.  I don't the how the average person does it.

Thats funny. Im the same way. I sit in the terminal and pull up the flight route on FlightAware on the iPad. Then I zoom in and take screenshots back from the destination so theyre in order. Then, I follow the route out the window. Snippy is rather crazy.

Then, theres always this app, which automated everything. From the National Science Foundation :

That must have been cool. Both meanings.

Flew out of New Zealand?

Yes, Christchurch, whorehouse right next door to the church. Only time I ever used the cruise/climb/cruise profile on the jet. Most fuel efficient profile to fly. Nothing out there taking up the flight levels.
