PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) One person is dead after an errant truck tire crashed into a van traveling on I-95 in Philadelphia Thursday afternoon.
Police said the crash occurred on the northbound lanes of I-95 near Broad Street at about 2 p.m.
A tire from a truck driving southbound on the Interstate apparently came loose, traveling into the southbound lanes of the busy roadway.
The tire struck a van in the southbound lanes, instantly killing the male driver. A female in the car was rescued and reportedly did not suffer major injuries.
A second vehicle was also struck by the wayward tire, but the driver was not injured.
All but one northbound lane of I-95 have been shut down and traffic is slowed on the southbound side while police investigate the scene.
