CSX settles in D.C. coal spill
CSX Transportation reached a settlement with the District of Columbia for a derailment that led to a coal spill in the Anacostia River, the Associated Press reported, Traffic World reports.

The railroad will pay more than $660,000 for the Nov. 9, 2007, accident, which includes $550,000 to create an Anacostia River Endowment Fund, as well as a $50,000 civil penalty and $60,000 in reimbursements for expenses to the city.

Cleanup from the spill began immediately after the accident and continued until March. D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty praised CSX for not letting the derailment become an "environmental disaster."
