The Bengals signed halfback Cedric Benson, a former No. 4 overall pick in the draft, on Tuesday.
The Bengals signed running back Chris Benson on Tuesday to fill a need at running back. With injuries to DeDe Dorsey and Kenny Watson, and Chris Perry struggling, Benson can help fill that need.
To make room for Benson, the Bengals put Dorsey on the Reserved-Injured list.
Benson was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft the Chicago Bears. He was released by the Bears before the season after two arrests in Texas for alcohol-related incidents. Both charges were recently dropped.
Benson played 35 games in three seasons for the Bears, with 12 starts. He had 1,593 yards rushing on 420 carries with 10 TDs. He also had 26 receptions for 180 yards.
Last season, Benson missed five games with an ankle injury, bet set career highs for rushing yards (674), receptions (17) and receiving yards (123), starting the first 11 games of the season.
