More'n likely SD-60s Fred. We've been seein' 'em on our rails too. A couple red ones...and two white ones. In the 6000 number series...

Real pullin' power! Reliability built in. No electronics! But...they'll never measure up to EPA standards for emissions. The only way around that is ta shut 'em down when ya don't need the extra ponies!

Don't let yer power idle for more'n two hours! Shut all lights, radios, etc., first...then kill the engine! Your outfit will be glad ya did! And Mother Earth will feel just a little better!

We get those on occasion as extra horsepower, but rarely lead qualified. I think they are now "CEFX" units.

I've seen lots of the lower numbered ex-SOOs labeled CEFX. But when I was up in the Twin Cities this August, there were plenty of SD60s still in SOO paint and working the old Milwaukee/SOO rails.

More 40s on the way. We're fixin' 'em ta get 'em ready ta go back to HELM Leasing in St. Louis.

We had a few dedicated sets of three for pullin' garbage trains... But even that's been taken over by GE's finest. Two punkins, back ta back on a Roosevelt bound unit-train of garbage today!

Fewer SD 40's will be seen on BNsf in 2009 than ever...and Interbay's grunts ALL miss 'em already!

Especially that old story I heard about the engineer who got sick at the AFHT....but he worked back to Lincoln....somewhere along the St. Joe Line he couldn't hold it anymore....and couldn't make it to the shitter so he hung his ass out the window and had a blow out at 50 mph. He said there was a rather large brown streak across the engine number on that particular Oakway.

That's just sad. I saw FURX 7239 on the point (!) of a westbound this weekend and had to stop for a second before I remembered what a 40-2 looked like. Seven years ago I used to see all sorts of goofy stuff down by the tracks, and now it's all Dash Nines and 70MACs. Depressing.

Since Uke holds no stock in BNsf [BNI], Uke is not overly concerned what 'they' use ta move their tonnage.

The timeliness of the paycheck is most important however. And Uke has never received a bad...or 'rubber' check from BNI.

Perhaps Interbay may yet see BNsf re-leasing a few 40-2s, and assigning said units to Interbay for maint., etc.

Meanwhile, the beatings continue...

Out of boredom the other night I poked in my video
of the UP turbines that ran from 1960-1970.
Wow! Railroading changes faster than you think.
What we see on a day to day basis doesn't seem to
change that fast but it does. I've seen damn near the
entire history of EMD and GE to date during my time.
40' boxcars, 50' flatcars, cabooses, all gone. Rolling
stock has gone through the same metamorphisis.
Pretty sure SD40-2 will be revenue service for some
railroads for atleast the next 5 years. They're sure to
live on around the world for awhile too.

What about those AC12 cabforward mallets they had back when Uke was cleaning out fire boxes?
