Yea Krink, Its always freaky working that double main line Seattle sub. Ive never gotten used to coming around a corner at 60 mph and seeing another train coming right at me going 60 mph. Uggggg im sure you remember that wreck down by Longview a few years back.

I do Bob. What a mess. Between Everett and Interbay there is quite
a few miles of double track and I got to experience a cab ride with
a passing of a 50mph hotshot on the other main. The old heart does
does skip a few beats. Recall many times of being totally fried in my
sleeper car traveling around the Amtrak routes with my face smashed
up against the window barely conscious and a 79mph meet with a
60mph freight going opposite on double track. It's like a rollby at 12X
on your DVD player.

Nothing like the combined speed of a double track meet. When they took out a significant portion of our double track on one of our ends when the railroad industry was doom and gloom, that ended forever here. Thanks, Tony, another SOU innovation (bottleneck)

Now, *cy*, the NoWay Railway stole 30 miles of our 83 mile continuous shot of double track. Prior to the gridlock that created and meets at the bottom of the ruling grade, Snippy never thought twice about headlight meets, what with the impenetrable protection of the long-hood and everything.

The freakiest part of that Longview cornfield meet was 10 years to the date the same event happened again at the same spot. Thankfully this time both crews survived.

The biggest problem I have running on the Seattle sub is you don't get a flasher a yellow and a red. If you miss a hard yellow your dead.

It would all be better if you were long-hooders.

Long-hooding is the ultimate protection!

Does Dog's good buddy, HH, wear one of those in the office?

Bob, I suppose you're saying that the best you ever get is an approach, you never get what I would assume is a advance approach or an approach medium.

ICE COLD EXPRESS

Tuesday, December 2nd at 10PM ET/9C
Union Pacific's refrigeration train is simply the coolest On its cross-country trip from Wallula, Washington, to Schenectady, New York, it employs hi-tech mobile refrigeration technology to keep its produce intact and fresh. Even the railcars themselves are loaded inside a cooled facility so as not to break the cold chain for this delicate cargo. Also in this episode: how trains and trucks battled for business in the 1950s.

I watched it last night and was able to keep from gouging my eyes out. It took them 50 minutes to get to Idaho and then they were in New York in an instant. Amazing.
