Very first line, "We need you. . .".

That's so sweet. After reading that, all I can say is, how could I have been so wrong. I guess I should take everything back. Nah.

A true Southern gentleman.  Yep.  Probably the inspiration for that friendly pamphlet.

The NoWay 2 Railroad Railway didn't pay anything to cubs. $20/day back then was half the road day and about 40% of the yard day and almost twice the unemployment daily rate and $4.00 a day more than Snippy was making at the time and about $7.00 a day more than the minimum wage.

The rust streaks are from the tears of joy at seeing the pictures of the Railroad Massah. Two whole volumes!!!! Snippy is really impressed. That great Railroad Massah paid more in fines for screwing the men in the takeover of the CofGa than he paid for the railroad. What a great Southern Massuh.

As I recall, when I hired out firing back in, well, let's just say (1968) the 60's, I got four hours pay for riding around on a couple of different yard engines for a few hours. That was a N&W terminal, covered by the N&W agreement. Then, I got marked up on the fireman's extra board, fully QUALIFIED, I'm sure. I'm thinking when I worked on that part of the road that was covered by the PRR engineer's agreement, that I was also paid four hours each way over the road, for which on the trip home, I rode the caboose, where I'm sure I learned some valuable train-handling skills.

I know I got half the mileage each way over the road when I hired out braking back in the early 70's.

I was CERTAIN that Snippy had that two volume set, well-worn, dogearred, and tear-streaked from repeated readings, I am so very letdown to learn otherwise.

Our last division RFE had the two volume set proudly displayed on his shelf, he offered to let me borrow it but I didn't take him up on it.

Still not as old as Uke.

Troll, that's more than I needed to know. I was a newly-minted high school graduate.

Uke's a BN hire. Think his railroad past has some
East Coast railroad employment stops. Not 100%
sure as I've had bunch to drink tonight. Think he mentioned
some service in the maritime industry as well. Uke...don't
rake me over the coals because I have "CRS".
