That reminds me of Brookfield Zoo which also is in LaGrange. Olga the Walrus comes to mind, sitting on her rock, fartin.

With them old selector lever stands always is annoying to feel the dynos coming on more when you think yer moving the handle to taper the dyno off, and vice versa.
The first time you apply the dyno you remember its backwards, but as you go along, and yer not looking at the console, your moving the lever as yer used to, and the loco is doing exactly the opposite of what you want.
I know the handles are shaped different on the new stands, but I almost always catch myself moving it the wrong way, before it registers that the handle is completely round ie an old selector stand where the dyno and throttle are the same lever.

Yeah the 40, and 45 'program' is converting the best of the leftovers ta remote only, as yard power. mntman's correct in that those thumpin' ponies have gone from 3000, down ta 2300. Worst decision thus far? Leave the turbocharger as is.

Job security? Not as bad as swappin' out the turbo on a geep 39. The 'little' turbo is more troublesome than the big ones on 40s and 45s.

LAMCO might oughta think about doin' a proper refit/rebuild of the big 645 engine, and pull the turbo completely. Equip 'em all with blowers instead, voila! Lower HP, less maintenance, longer life, quiter.

But the bigshots at Ft. Worth Mech. haven't a clue how the two-stroke turbocharger works. So it's keep the turbos...

It's one of the few things MARRCO doesn't have a monopoly on. I think MARRCO, 2LRRCO, LINTCO and LAMCO all have an equal share.

The heyday of the 40s, and 45s, has passed girlz. GE builds 'em cheaper, and has a better guarantee than EMD.

So what would you buy? Pinchin' pennies, and payin' stockholders is the name of the game these days. How ya gonna keep all those folks happy if ya spend all your money on maintenance, cars, health-care for your employees, new locomotives, track, structures, signals, bridges, buildings...

In other words, running the railroad. Like it's s'posed ta be run. My road? Take care of employees first. ALL my employees. Fixed plant, locomotives [all of 'em], freight cars, bridges, signals, buildings...

Ya take care of all your people, power, track, signals, and pay dividends accordingly... But not at the expense of your outfit!

A Yugo with a great guarantee is still not a good car....

A GE with a great guarantee is still not a good locomotive.

(Too bad EM has gone straight to shit, too.)

You're assesment is on the money Snippy! Because GE offers the guarantee [replacement units in kind], oughta be your caution.

Sadly BNsf bought in wholescale. They get what they pay for. The leaders of the pack in failures? Big GEs.

Next in line? The 70 series from La Grange. Then 60s, 40s, 39s... But the numbers for all EMD failures don't even come close ta GE failures on line!

Oh well... Pissin' inta the wind.
