CSX lays off 40 in upstate New York
SELKIRK, N.Y. - CSX Corp. has laid off 40 employees in the Capital Region as it copes with declining freight traffic, company spokesman Bob Sullivan told the Albany Times Union.

Companywide, 1,600 of the company's 34,690 employees were laid off, or about 4.6 percent of the work force, according to Bloomberg News.

CSX Transportation operates a massive railyard in Selkirk and employs about 1,000 people in the Capital Region.

Sullivan said the layoffs were temporary and that if freight volumes rebounded, "our intention is to call these people back."

Crew management called me up today to ask me to come out on my rest tonight to run a coal train. Told them, I don't come out on my rest with people furloughed in my terminal. She didn't seem pleased.

They have over 50 furloughed here in Cumberland, and we're nowhere near the size of Selkirk. Corse, I don't think they have all thier yard jobs changed over to 1 man crew yet.

Guess now isn't the time to reiterate how the BLE guys on MRL have career long protection against the RCO, and everywhere else, the utu protection expired years ago....

I am looking into possibly reversing my lodging, I only use that threat on occasion to remind some younger ones from Richmond or Baltimore, that it can happen.

At our union meeting it was reported that the NS isn't happy with the shared assets thing. Guess they didn't like the fact that CSX finally pulled it's head out of it's ass and started demanding some service too. NS is talking splitting it up.
