President Barack Obama's visit to Canada Thursday Feb.19 2009 was a really big deal for us. He has an impressively solid nearly messianic 80% approval rating from his northern neighbours, higher than his home polling and knocking P.M. Steven Harper's numbers right out of the park. Excluding travel time to and from the airport he had all of about three hours on the ground. Crowds were wetting their panties at the momentary sight of his car going by and his hand waving through bullet proof glass hundreds of yards away from the parliament building. That was about as friendly as he got with us all day. He had a brief meeting with the P.M. and a briefer one with the leader of the opposition.
Now it's early in the regime and don't compare apples to oranges but Bill Clinton actually adressed the house of commons with his hypnotically smooth rhetoric for a full 36 minutes once. The gipper joined in a sing along with Brian Mulroney at a big piss up dance and dinner for crying out loud. All I'm saying is thanks for stopping by cause we love ya. And we'll just chalk this one up to obligatory symbolic diplomatic gestures. Not really a much of "visit" Y'all come back now eh ? Set a spell. Take yer shoes off.
