Thank (or blame) Snippy for that guy and send it his way.

Did they choose water for ballast? or does it transfer real fuel through the MU hose?

Looks like it will be quiet running, probably like CSX's and be
colder than a frigid bitch in the Winter.
Looks like 2 big tanks where the prime mover used to set.
Probably fill them up with old tie plates, or concrete, or both...?

Talking about in the fuel tank on the finished unit.

Had some old shit once upon a time where they kept the fuel tank ballasted with water to lower the center of gravity. I'm just not seeing these slugs having an elaborate fuel transferring system on a short carrier like LAMCO.

Our slugs have traditionally been finished off with concrete. Those are brand new cabs and have the upgraded heat and standard 5'11" air conditioner for all the six footers to learn about.

Yep. Those road slugs suck in the winter. The mother unit robs the heating power to the slug. You get little, if any heat.

When you get a new guy who isn't a foamer, ask him to help you start it. biggrin Had a new guy climb on one I was using one night that was freshly painted. He was like "Man this new engine is nice and quiet!" He had no idea obviously.

I kind of miss those educational videos where I had the opportunity to learn about railroading and things I didn't know.  Wonder if that guy is still producing those?  And what of the other guys?

Desktop controls should be banished from the face of the earth.  Either that or that fat guy should have to run one every day for twelve hours and do a little local work on the way.

Over at T.O they said these were GP38 rebuilds.  They don't look like rebuilds to me.  You can't hardly believe anything you read on the internets, the other day I heard CSX crews were going to have share rooms at the AFHT.

Steve and his big digester can be used as ballast.

That cabtop 'air conditioner,' is s'posed ta be a heater/cooler unit. How well the thaing actually works is up for grabs. But yes it steals its current from its mama unit.

The fuel tanks are used for fueling the mother, as needed. Via a pump. Also driven by DC current from guess who?

Ballast? Cement poured inta the 'boxes' where the engine/generator, etc. used ta live. You don't really want shifting, or sloshing anything as ballast. The D-78/87 motors under 'em are the best EMD direct current motors built!

They oughta do the job pretty well... And no prime mover ta take care of!

Looks like the boxes might be for batteries. There is room at the end for a generator. I'm guessing a hybrid of some sort.
