I am watching with morbid curiosity "Break It Down" on the NAtional Geographic Channel.  They are scrapping 2 KSC SD40's.  What an inglorious end to a couple of old war horses.

No real shocker that they sell the prime mover. I'm surprised old SD40s like that aren't worth more as rebuilds.

I was talking to one of my RoHo buddies the other night. He said we don't even change the oil in our older units. They just add oil until they blow up then they scab it out to get replaced. That kind of shit pisses me off! He says all they do is clean shitters and windshields, and replace brake shoes. How can we in the operating crafts protect our carmen roho mow etc crafts!? WE NEED THEM as much as they need us!

In the end, the last one got a reprieve, and was sold intact to someone else who was going to use it.
The 645 eng out of the unlucky one got sold to a rebuilder. The cab got removed to sell to someone. The trucks and wheels got rolled off to be reused.
Everything else got stuffed into that crusher and turned into 2 foot long mini bites.
Some of the copper goes to the U S Mint. You probably have pennys in yer pocket that used ta be loco's you took down the road.

Uke will not drink any products produced/brewed by INBEV/Anheuser-Busch.

My personal boycott list still maintains a 'no-go' status for aluminum cans. Especiall where Bud's concerned.

And like Clalvlin, my sensitivity towards EMD's 40 series locos is genuinely felt.

Bottled beer is best!  Green? Drink it down! Brown? Slow down! Clear glass? Add a lime! Betcher ass...

Freddie... My company flew from Fort Benning, GA [outside Columbus] ta Elmendorf AFB, took a break for refueling, then on ta Yakota AFB, in Japan... And landed in BienHoa, AFB. You know where.

The most comfortable spot on that big ol' bird? Atop a deuce-and-a-half, stretched out on the canvas 'roof' over the cargo bay.

Those little jump seats along the sides were for skinny-assed grunts...

A thirty-one hour trip. I'll never forget. They get up above everything! Including the weather! Yeah, they were pressurized!
