I was set up for about a week, so now it looks like back to the sodomites! Until Monday morning of course...

OK, I don't know who Dilbert is, or even get the jokes referencing it. I told DH I thought it was a bunch of BS from the Trainmaster at the other terminal to keep him from coming out there and bumping another guy off of his job. I told him I would ask to see it in writing.

The place he wants to go to is all locals.

6 weeks my ass.

What do you mean 48 hours or wait 90 days? Elaborate.

Advice?

Sometimes a desirable terminal finds itself in the dubious position of having more people interested in working there than there are positions.
People play the qualifying game, just jumping around and as soon as they qualify one place they are bumped by someone higher in seniority thus wasting the terminals training money.
Probably DH don't have enuff seniority to hold where he wants to go, there are others with more seniority who can be trained there and won't be bumped out rite away.
Tell him to go where they dont have the 6 week wait, if he wants to make money, he'll probably last longer there.
Its only human nature to distrust someone who only pops in every once in awhile when they need something and after they get it they are gone again..

The TM is a douchebag. To make someone who is a cutback engineer train for 6 weeks is pretty low, even for NS. Hes probably try to bluff your DH into going somewhere else. This is why I would have just kicked on a brakemans spot and showed up to work. I've worked in a few different places and not calling the TM has always worked out better than calling.

Delbert Strunk is the NS UTU General Chairman for Nickel Plate Wabash and some former Conrail territories, and Alternate Vice President - East. Or, something like that.

He makes the rules. He interprets the rules. Ya' dance to his tune, or don't dance at all. Capiche? Clavin ain't nevah danced to the =NS tune.

That is him on the left.

Calvin, I get what you are saying about not sticking around. I've been around Troll and some of the members here for almost 5 years now. I don't hang around here as much as I used to because frankly the inside jokes are really hard for me to understand.

As far as DH going to train somewhere that he might get bumped right away, that is not the case. He almost has enough seniority at the terminal he wants to go to to hold the Engineers Extra board.

Tell us, DQ, is he on the old N&W or is he generally somewhere north of Columbus, Ohio. You can tell us that much. And, if he is north of Columbus, then he's in Dilbert's territory and that brings everything that Snippy tells you into play.

Snippy, I've seen guys do pretty much the things that Calvin speaks of, even though we're not on Tony's railroad (anymore).

On =NS, they don't eat up "training funds", do they? (Unless they are going on a Labor Relations offered transfer.)

Her original post said 'six weeks unpaid qualifying.'

This was in the early days, Snippy, when things were different, during the early 80's when things were slow. Actually, there was really no training then, you just marked up and it was all OJT, but I sure knew some guys who jumped around a lot. We had one guy we called, "Next load, any road, Norm".

That sums it up, then, Snippy has the insight.  And, he's right.  And, I'm sure your husband has heard of Delbert Strunk.

Can you help me decipher through all the jokes. I'm not sure what Snippy is saying. What about Delbert Strunk. DH has never mentioned that name. DH never belonged to the UTU, just the BLET.

I need help and advice. If DH wants to train at a terminal that is in his Seniority District and they say it is 6 weeks to qualify and that is UNPAID, can that be right? If it isn't right, what steps does he have to take to get through this BS? Who would he call to get the right answer.

In plain English pretty please.

Thanks!

DQ
