RUSSELL, Mass. -- An Amtrak train headed to Albany from Boston jumped off the tracks in the town of Russell Sunday afternoon, March 8, according to Channel 7 (NBC) News, Boston.
There were 109 passengers and five crew members on board the train at the time of the accident. No one was injured.
The crew was able to keep the train upright and bring it to a complete stop.
Police say the wheels on one of the passenger cars came off the tracks around 3 p.m. in the western Massachusetts town.
Several passengers claimed they were told that freezing and un-freezing ice made the train derail.
Amtrak arranged for buses to pick up the passengers and take them to Albany.
Police and Amtrak are investigating the incident.
