The DOT 218 is gone. Hauled outa #1 stall and hosteled off somewhere... The joint is still reekin' from the stench the thing carried... Dead cow, shit, piss...just really awful.

No kidding. They musta got the ass end of a large animal. Maybe an elk, or a steer...antelope? Nah! Pronghorns stink worse than cattle! More likely a cow.

And our workload is down from this period last year. Not because of DOT 218. That unit was worked by their mechanics. But business is slow.

They've ripped out our #1 track adjacent to the main. The plan is to straighten a curve and increase commuter train speeds past Interbay. They cruise by our maintenance building at 35-40 MPH right now. But I expect the change ta allow 'em ta hit 50 MPH after the main is relaid.

I still think bein' shoved at 40 is risky... When they up it ta 50, I won't be anywhere near that building, or the main!

They shove them up to 79mph here on the Metropolitan Div.

now, Claviln, the FRA (in close consultation with commuter authorities who do not want to wye trains, no matter how safe and easy it would be...) have determined that shoving commuter trains at high speeds with cab cars leading is almost as safe as pulling them.

Snippy just remembers the death and destruction he wreaked while shoving his Lionel LinesŪ trains, as opposed to his tame stringliners while pulling the same trains.

I heard something the other day about one fo those new, multi-million dollar FRA test cars recently built. It seems that there was a little ride arranged for various members of congress and money people up and down Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. At one point, against the advice of those in the know, the testing equipment was turned on and then so many flaws were found in such a short amount of time that the track was taken out of service and that Amtrak got big time fined.

Any of you eastern folk hear about this and can confirm this?

Sounds plausible, but I have no confirmation from anyone.
