CASPER, Wyo. -- Union Pacific is loading less coal from Wyoming's Powder River Basin so far this year.
Union Pacific reports on its Web site that it loaded 11.5 percent less Powder River Basin coal during this first three months of this year compared to last year.
The BNSF Railway reports no significant change in customer demand.
Marion Loomis is executive director of the Wyoming Mining Association. He says Wyoming coal production is seeing the effects of the recession.
Mark Davis is spokesman for Union Pacific. He says the railroad has lost some coal business so far this year because there is lower electrical demand nationwide.
