GE Transportation delivers RCL systems to CN
GE Transportation, a technological supplier to the railroad, marine, drilling, mining and wind industries business unit of the General Electric Company, announced April 29 that the company has delivered and equipped six LOCOTROL remote control locomotive (RCL) systems for Canadian National Railways (CN) at its Johnson Yard in Memphis, Tenn., according to a GE press release.

GE said that the Global Signaling LOCOTROL RCL system enables improved efficiency of yard operations while providing an increased level of operator control.

The system can decrease yard movements and improve interchange management for increased network velocity, GE said.

The LOCOTROL RCL system is a derivative of two field-proven products: the LOCOTROL Distributed Power System and the LOCOTROL Tower Control System used in Canada and Australia.

This approach reportedly provides an economical, reliable, and low-risk solution to meet all the US Federal Railroad Administration's Advisory 2001-1 Guidelines for Remote Control Locomotives (RCL), GE said.

Financial details were not available.

(This press release was distributed April 29, 2009, by GE.)
