2 men fatally hit by speeding train after fighting on platform
KAMAKURA, Kanagawa -- Two men were fatally hit by a speeding train while allegedly fighting on a railway station platform here on Thursday evening, police said.
The two were reportedly scuffling with one another on a platform at JR Ofuna Station in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, when they were hit by a Tokaido Line rapid service train for Odawara at around 10:35 p.m. They suffered serious head injuries and died shortly afterwards.
Police are trying to confirm the identity of the victims, who are believed to be Tetsuichiro Sekiguchi, 42, a resident of Yokohama, and Yuji Aoyagi, 52, a resident of Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The fight started on another train stopped on the other side of the platform, an eyewitness said.
Due to the incident, westbound trains on the Tokaido Line were suspended for about 45 minutes, and 16 trains, including those of the Keihin-Tohoku Line, were delayed by up to 50 minutes, affecting some 22,000 passengers.
