Canadian Pacific to install trip optimizers

on 200 road locomotives

Published: Thursday, July 09, 2009 TRAINS Magazine NEWSWIRE

ERIE, Pa. - General Electric announced today that it has been awarded a contract by Canadian Pacific Railway to equip 200 locomotives with its Trip Optimizer fuel savings product.

Trip Optimizer is an energy management system that optimizes fuel consumption based on a specific train's makeup and the route being traveled. The system calculates a fuel-optimal speed profile for the trip and then automatically controls the throttle to maintain that planned speed.

The device uses
GPS, a digital track database, and advanced algorithms that automatically learn the train's characteristics throughout the trip to achieve the fuel savings. The system evaluates train length, weight, grade, track conditions, weather, and locomotive performance to calculate the most efficient way of running the train while maintaining smooth train handling. Train crews retain responsibility for safe operation of the train and can engage or disengage the system at any time.

GE had previously tested the device on 18 CP locomotives across three subdivisions. More than 500 train-starts and 50,000 revenue miles were accumulated during testing.

Lots of holes in it but better than nothing.
BNSF has the same rule almost word for word.

We had a supposed IRON CLAD scope rule on the B&O.
Take a gander at Rule 43 of the BLE March 1, 1955 Agreement with the B&O.
It was supposed to keep the RCO's out. Cast in stone.
Fukin Judge just laughed, said most companys didnt have it, only a few of us did, so it was more fair to shitcan our B&O scope rule, than to force others to comply with it.
It was over in a few seconds...

Heres our new Agreement 1-023-07 CSXTSSA.
Which one sounded better 1955 or 2007?

Well, one thing about it, Clavlin, when you have to move, you can relax knowing that your household goods will be moved safely over the B&O. Just bring them down and load them up.  Get Slugger to help.
