UPDATE @ 12:30pm WHARNCLIFFE, W.Va. (AP) -- A Norfolk Southern spokesman says four people were hurt today after a train derailed and struck a loading facility at a Mingo County coal preparation plant.
Norfolk Southern spokesman Robin Chapman says one victim suffered serious injuries but they're not considered life threatening.
State Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training spokeswoman Jama Jarrett says the other victims were taken to an area hospital for evaluation of what appeared to be minor injuries.
Chapman says three of the victims work at the plant in Wharncliffe and the fourth is a Norfolk Southern conductor, who suffered minor injuries. Their names haven't been released.
The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. today at the Black Bear Preparation Plant in Mingo County. Chapman says five cars derailed. The preparation plant is operated by a subsidiary of Abindgon, Va.-based Alpha Natural Resources.
GILBERT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A coal train has derailed and hit a building in Mingo County.
The incident happened just before 8:00 a.m. Monday at the Black Bear Prep Plant near Gilbert. This plant is where the trains are loaded with coal.
"A coal train going into the load out facility has derailed," said Jama Jarrett, Mine Safety Communications Director. "Information from the scene indicates that the train derailed and took out a building."
Three people were trapped inside the building, including two prep plant employees and a Norfolk Southern Employee.
All three seemed to have minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. One person was flown to the hospital.
Mine safety officials are headed to the scene to investigate the accident.

Alpha Natural Resources spokesman Ted Pile says the accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Black Bear Preparation Plant in Wharnecliffe. The plant is operated by a subsidiary of Abingdon, Va.-based Alpha.
Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training spokeswoman Jama Jarrett says two Alpha workers and one employee of Norfolk Southern were trapped after the train hit the loading facility. All three workers were freed and taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
Pile says Alpha officials believe the train hit one of the loading facility's supports, causing it to collapse.
