COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Police say a train conductor was injured Thursday night when a train locomotive collided with a semi truck, the KUSA Web site reports.
Commerce City police say it happened around 11:30 p.m. in the area of the refinery, around the 3900 block of East 56th Avenue.
Police say a single engine locomotive for Burlington Northern Railroad going south on the tracks hit a semi truck tanker crossing the tracks.
The tanker was loaded with fuel and when the two collided, it caused a large explosion and fire. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire.
The conductor and the two other people on the locomotive were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.
Police don't believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
The area around the crash site will be closed for several more hours because of the investigation.
