It happened around 4:00 p.m. Monday afternoon near Mt. Vernon in an area where the train engines switch loads.
Posey County deputies said an engine nudged a string of cars down the track, striking the man who works for Evansville Western Railway.
The victim suffered a hip injury and a compound fracture to his lower right leg.
He was taken by medical helicopter to Deaconess Hospital.
His name was not released.
