Port of Vancouver, Wash., picks Rotschy for rail loop
pixel.gif
Washington state's Port of Vancouver has identified local contractor Rotschy Inc. as the low bidder for constructing a 7.3-mile rail loop at Terminal 5, designed to expand the inland port's intermodal capacity. Rotschy outbid four other competitors with a low bid of $15.26 million, port officials said. The rail loop is part of the $137 million West Vancouver Freight Access project, which will encircle 1.8 miles of the port's new Terminal 5.

No...the BNSF is going to dig this as Vancouver WA is at
the end of the funnel. Most container trains take the wye
at Vancouver and head a 180 miles north to Tacoma-Seattle.
Now some business can just loaded up at Vancouver and
be on it's way overseas. Has to be atleast a day or two savings
timewise. The Columbia River always seems to have enough water.
I'll keep track of this story.

The expansions at Seattle ports have gone as far as they can. Everett has no room ta go bigger. The most likely West Coast port? Vancouver, WA., USA. Since Vancouver, Canada is at, or near capacity, and sailing times to LA/San Diego is longer by two days...

Outa Vanc., eastbound containers can follow the Columbia right inta Pasco. Recrew...onta Spokane/Hauser... Further east Whitefish, MT...Havre...all the way ta Chicago.

Not ta mention the 'deal' with MRL, which promised a certain number of cars/trains per year, via Sandpoint ta Billings. Then on BNsf again...further east!

Seattle's got too many grade crossings/auto traffic ta be really efficient, plus the increasing commuter loads...

I'd move ta Vancouver any day! Just gimme the word! Or...stay here and work for Sounder!
