Norfolk Southern wants dialogue with McCalla residents

(The following appeared on the Birmingham News website on October 20, 2009.)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Norfolk Southern wants leaders in McCalla to form a community outreach group in hopes of having a dialogue with residents and working with the railroad company on projects that will benefit the West Jefferson community.

Letters about the group will be mailed out this week to those who signed up for more information at a public meeting in August. The move comes after a citizens group called No Hub 4 McCalla opposed the company's plans to build a $112 million cargo-loading hub.

Norfolk Southern has hired AC ESS LLC to form the group. A 10-member community outreach group of McCalla citizens will be elected based on nominations from the community.

Ashley Cousins of AC ESS will solicit membership. She said the group will have a table at an Norfolk Southern's second public meeting at the Bessemer Civic Center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 12. She said those seeking more information can contact her at 205-933-0600 or e-mail at nomination@accessllc.com.
