You might be onto something, he'll question, a la a John Snow type, why do this, it makes no sense, and after awhile, REAL railroaders won't get it at all what's going on.

Ah, but he did it at the behest of Phillip Anschutz, stripped it of everything worthwhile. John Snow didn't quite go that far with CSX but when he was in charge, there were some strange practices that made little railroad sense. And that's not to mention the lack of investment in maintenance.
