And cuts 73 miles. Now it's double-stack height, allowing some trains ta completely by-pass the old Feather River Canyon route...

Doublestacks on Donner Pass

Following completion of a 12-month clearance project "designed to move customer products over a shorter, faster, and more efficient route," Union Pacific's Donner Pass route is open to doublestack intermodal traffic. Donner Pass is up to 73 miles shorter and up to three hours faster than the Feather River Canyon route, depending upon the destination. In addition, UP can now operate trains up to 9,000 feet in length, a 58% increase over the 5,700-foot trains that run through Feather River Canyon.

Was there government money for this project?  And, that's not 70% but it's getting there.

Even mother nature knows short and fast is the way ta go when delivering a payload.
Better ta get 10cc in 5 or so 2cc shots, than ta ramrod all 10 thru in one burst.
Why something might break.! sprint.gif

How about tying the thing down after your DPU's loose com. It snows a tiny bit in the Sierras. We can get our own MARRCO Donner party.
