Donner Pass is up to 73 miles shorter and up to three hours faster than the Feather River Canyon route, depending upon the destination. In addition, UP can now operate trains up to 9,000 feet in length, a 58% increase over the 5,700-foot trains that run through Feather River Canyon.

Even mother nature knows short and fast is the way ta go when delivering a payload. Better ta get 10cc in 5 or so 2cc shots, than ta ramrod all 10 thru in one burst. Why something might break.!
Btw rumor mill coming out of Roseville is that MARRCO is going to mothball the Feather River Route.
