NTSB to release probable cause of Metrolink crash
LOS ANGELES The National Transportation Safety Board is close to releasing its findings on the probable cause of a Southern California commuter train crash that killed 25 people in 2008, the Associated Press reports.

The NTSB said Thursday it will hold a board meeting Jan. 21 to address a final report on the head-on collision between a Metrolink train and a freight train in Chatsworth.

After the meeting, the agency will release a summary of the final report, including the probable cause and safety recommendations. The full report will appear on the NTSB's Web site several weeks later.

Investigators believe a Metrolink engineer was text messaging on his cell phone seconds before running a red light and crashing into the freight train.
