... WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING.

A STORM SYSTEM DEVELOPING OVER THE GULF OF MEXICO TODAY WILL PASS OFF THE CAROLINA COAST FRIDAY NIGHT AND THEN CONTINUE TO THE NORTHEAST ON SATURDAY. SNOW FROM THIS SYSTEM WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION FROM SOUTH TO NORTH FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND IT WILL CONTINUE MUCH OF SATURDAY. SIGNIFICANT SNOW TOTALS OF 6 TO 12 INCHES WILL OCCUR OVER THE WATCH AREA. HIGHER TOTALS ARE POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE DELMARVA REGION. STRENGTHENING WINDS ON SATURDAY MAY CREATE AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WHICH MAY CREATE ADDITIONAL HAZARDS.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW... SLEET... OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE FOR SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER. ALSO... CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FROM YOUR NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.

A STORM SYSTEM DEVELOPING OVER THE GULF OF MEXICO TODAY WILL PASS OFF THE CAROLINA COAST FRIDAY NIGHT AND THEN CONTINUE TO THE NORTHEAST ON SATURDAY. It's to the east that the snow will be crippling, as roads will be shut, airports will close, businesses will shut down and power outages may occur. Most of this will be south of the Mason-Dixon line yet again, focusing on parts of West Virginia, northern and western Virginia, Maryland, much of Delaware and southern New Jersey. I still believe most of this region will get more than a foot of snow, with amounts of over 20 inches very possible. It wouldn't at all shock me if snowfall rates of 3 inches an hour for several hours led to totals approaching 30 inches somewhere in that area! As bad as the pre-Christmas storm and the last weekend storm were, this will be worse, plain and simple

Snippster, Last nite I heard something about an unprecedented 3/4 inch of ICE, but I wished snow on ya, All that ice would just bring trees and wires down, An you wouldn't be able ta get on the internet to say...Bullschitt!
