Train spews fuel for 120 miles
KEARNEY, Neb. - Union Pacific Railroad crews were busy cleaning up thousands of gallons of diesel fuel that spilled along a 120-mile stretch of track through east-central Nebraska, the Hub reports.

Around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, motorists along Highway 30 east of Kearney reported diesel fuel seeping from underneath a westbound locomotive.

UP spokesperson Mark Davis said the leak was caused by a broken fuel line that spilled nearly 2,800 gallons of fuel on the ground between Columbus and Kearney.

The train was stopped on the west edge of Kearney near the 30th Avenue overpass.

On Friday, Davis said UP crews were cleaning up the spill.

Was the fuel transfer line between the units connected properly? You know the one.

Must have been a "rare treat". Good thing there were alert and attentive motorists about.

I wonder if you started the line on fire, would it go the whole way? Spray pattern good enough? Oak Island was set on fire between Pike and Valley. I didn't do it, wasn't my train.
