BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Investigators said a train may be to blame for a fire on a Platte River bridge early Sunday, television station KETV reported.
Firefighters were called to the bridge west of Highway 75 at about 12:30 a.m. to investigate reports of a fire.
Firefighters said the bridge's location forced them to carry water to the scene.
"A train had passed through about 15 minutes earlier," said Battalion Chief Steve Wagner of the Bellevue Fire Department. "In all likelihood, it had a locked-up brake, which started shooting off some sparks, which sparked some driftwood."
Wagner said the Bellevue Fire Department was called to respond to the fire because it had the best access to the scene.
