Have to say Playboy magazine was very instrumental to my sexual awakening.

Tom Petty dead at 66. Heart attack. No brain function. And he had a 'do not resuscitate' order. Family made the decision to pull the plug.

So long Tom, we'll miss you! http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-tom-petty-20171002-story.html

I was into Tom Petty from his day one on the music scene. Have the first half-dozen
LP's. Lots of great music from Tom Petty.

Jalal Talibani, Kurdish leader of the Kurd's military wing, and became president of Iraq from 2005 till 2012. He was a hero of several wars between Kurds, and Arabs. And he fought with Iraqi forces against Iran!

Snippy, how did we miss this?

NORFOLK, Va. Stephen C. Tobias, Norfolk Southerns former vice chairman and chief operating officer, died Aug. 7. He was 72.

Under Tobias operations leadership, NS won an unprecedented 15 consecutive Harriman Gold Medal Awards for the best safety performance among U.S. Class I railroads.

He was a great railroader and, I believe, the best operations man in the business, former NS CEO David Goode says.

Steve went through hell since 2009. I remember talking to him at his retirement thing in Atlanta. He had just been diagnosed with tongue cancer. I had gotten to know him from having him out on the property to do a special commemoration for Buster Davis, our 55-year injury free BLET member. Buster liked Mr. Tobias because he was the last operating man to run transportation.

He called me several times four years later to encourage me along through my tongue cancer. We had the same doctor and otolaryngology team. He had a hunting lodge near "The Forest" in South Carolina where he lived. But, he came up here for his medical stuff.

He really thought I should try putting pizza in a blender to go through my feeding tube. I was content enough with the liquid, thank you very much.

When his cancer came back in late 2014, it ravished him from his shoulders up. The surgeries muted him to the point of only being able to communicate by text using an iPhone to everybody -- even those in the same room.

Snippy, I know of a couple of things Steve did for people in Belletucky after he left there and was way higher up.

Ralphie May, another guy that had to die for Cy to hear of him.

I remember reading about the playground star long ago:

Connie Hawkins, basketballs dazzling New York playground legend who soared and swooped his way to the Hall of Fame, died Oct. 6. He was 75.

His death was announced by the Phoenix Suns, the team with which he spent his most productive NBA seasons. The cause of death was not disclosed, but Mr. Hawkins, who lived in the Phoenix area, had been in frail health for several years and was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2007.

Mr. Hawkins, nicknamed The Hawk for his soaring repertoire of acrobatic shots, was shadowed by a college point-shaving scandal that led to the National Basketball Association to blackball him for years, even though he was never directly linked to any wrongdoing.
