Thousands attend CSX open houseNORTH BALTIMORE   CSX on Tuesday opened its $175 million railyard to thousands of people.CSX Chief Executive Officer Michael Ward called the terminal, which is the railroads largest railyard on its most critical rail line, the "linchpin" to move goods to Chicago, Detroit, Dayton and other cities."(It) symbolizes for the rest of the world that Ohio is open for business," Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor said.It opened four months ago, employing 250 and could spark 2,600 more jobs in trucking and warehousing-related businesses. Twenty to 40-ton freight containers are gracefully moved between trains and trucks and between trains and other trains by vehicles and colossal cranes. At Tuesday's open house, hundreds of people thronged a grandstand and hundreds more stood nearby to watch a 500-ton crane effortlessly hoist huge containers 100 feet into the air. Six-wheeled vehicles occasionally hummed by, flashing yellow lights as they carted containers.Reporter Lou Wilin's full account of the CSX open house will be published in Tuesday's edition of The Courier.

Dayton is right down the road from there, Snippy. Michael Ward is looking out for your best interests. You know, kind of like FMB's personal hero does.

Hyundai Intermodal Switches to CSX

The Journal of Commerce Online - News Story

Ship line unit eyes coming Ohio terminal as time saver for cross country moves

Hyundai Intermodal, a unit of Hyundai Merchant Marine, will switch from Norfolk Southern to CSX Transportation as its eastern-U.S. railroad partner beginning June 1.

Hyundai said it is making the change partly because a new intermodal terminal CSX is building in Northwest Ohio will cut 24 to 48 hours off transit times for international box shipments. The facility is set to open in the first quarter of 2011.

That terminal in North Baltimore, Ohio, south of Toledo will be a key hub in CSXs National Gateway corridor project. The corridor plan is to raise clearances to allow double-stacking of containers on intermodal trains moving north-south near the Interstate 95 corridor in the mid-Atlantic region, and then west to Ohio.

The new terminal will allow interchange trains to bypass Chicago, and the congestion in and around Chicago, and move through for processing to final destination without delay, the shipping company said.

Hyundai also cited CSXs competitive intermodal service to all major East Coast ports and to key intermodal markets, in its decision to move to that rail line.

Hyundai Merchant Marine operates at least 110 ships on dozens of sea lanes to over 100 ports. Its intermodal subsidiary serves major ramps in North America through exclusive agreements with rail carriers.

Uke, this isn't from your intrepid reporter, Lou Willin, but here's a chance to see another great American railroad leader.

Chinese goods in, union jobs out.  After a decade of free trade. they're now down to exporting scrap steel, used bricks, and body bags.

As an aside ta Cy's Baltimore story... Real estate (houses) comes inta play with positive news, and jobs.

Well that's if ya b'lieve CSX's big Kahuna Mike Ward. He talks job creation as if that were a given.

At BNsf, it takes four ta six months ta just get an invitation ta a 'hiring session.' And IF they offer a job, another three ta four months (if ya pass the drug tests) before they offer ya any kind of job...

CSX can't possibly be any different.

Baltimore, Md. has a 65% New hire quit rate. They are actively recruiting warm bodied life forms to see if they can find a needle in a haystack.

What is it about Baltimore that always makes it a mess and the best that LARRCO can throw at it doesn't seem to solve the problem. You do understand that when I say "best", I do intend it to mean "relatively speaking". 65% is pretty dismal. Anything to do with BaltiMORANS?

Trouble is, if you look, in about 2 days you can find a better paying job, with 40 hour week and nites and weekends and holidays off; and no assholes threatining to fire you at every turn of the hat.
