18 injured in Oakland Amtrak train collision

Emergency vehicles have been called the scene of a train accident in Oakland Wednesday night. The collision involving two Amtrak trains happened at Webster street and Embarcadero at 10 p.m. close to the Oakland Amtrak station.
Initial reports indicated that one train ran into the back end of the second train. There are reports of 18 injuries among passengers. It appears the trains remain on the tracks. A witness told KTVU it looked like the impact happened at a low speed.
Most of the injuries being reported seem to be bumps and bruises, but there was word of one person suffering a broken arm.In addition to police and emergency personnel, railroad inspectors are also on the scene inspecting damage. 50 feet of tracks were reportedly damaged in the accident.
Authorities will now begin work to separate the two trains and move them out of the way and allow train traffic through the area to begin moving again.

Yes, like the rear-ender in Chicago, where they loaded up the lead unit on a flatcar real quick like, brakes weren't quite good enough.

They have the patented RAM Air Injection air-conditioning system going on there. Looks like the collision knocked out the number board, too.
