My closest, cheapest, and favorite for take-out Chinese food. And the owners lived in the building next door. Saw him Friday loading his truck, as if he were makin' a big move.
Asked him what he was up to, and he says we're moving ta Kingston... What? That's a ferry ride outa Edmonds, WA...onta the Kitsap Peninsula, NOT Whidbey Island as reported earlier...and definitely not close!
Shit! Tony...obviously NOT his given name, told me not ta worry as he sold the restaurant to a friend of his. Not good news ta me! Changes... I don't like change.
Okay...there's an Asian restaurant a few blocks away... And a faux-Vietnamese joint a drive across the drawbridge that mntman showed me, which is actually pretty good.
But for cheap, fast, better'n average take-out Chinese, Bird's Nest was hands down my fave!
And now they're moving on.
Not ta mention they're building new condo/apartments across from the QFC market, just above the aforementioned Asian joint.
Fuck me! My nabe's been discovered! Interbay. The last bastion, the last holdout against the tide of 'development' in Seattle. They even forced Fishermans Terminal ta open up the slips, once the place for work-boats ta tie up and be worked over by owners, for pleasure craft. Fishermans is right across the road from Interbay Roundhouse!
I guess my days are numbered too. Everything about my neighborhood's changing so fast, that it'll be too 'nice' ta stay 'round much longer. I guess denial ain't workin' for me!
Reality sucks! But ya can't go back... Ya can't go back!

I doubt he got rich on my take-outs...he may have been fallin' behind on his rent. Seen many restaurants come and go in that very spot... Like "Fightin' Cock Roaster," where they did chicken over applewood smoke! That lasted less than a year! Disappointed when tht closed tu!
There is a Mexican joint nearby tu... Might give that a try soon. There's "Time for Pho" right across... Faux-Viet... Pizza nearby tu. Tavern. Burger joint. Gettin' hungry just talkin' about food! And thinkin' about food! A burger and fries sounds good! Tu early though...
Maybe walk over there later. Red Mill Burgers... They should be open on Sundays...

The GOOD hole in the wall chinese joint is a special thing. The best one here is on the other side of town, amazing how busy it is. I know it must suck Uke, we have to settle for the "not that bad" place down the street.
fwiw seems like the best chinese doesnt come close to Thai or Japanese. I cold eat Thai all day every day.

Yeah Thai food is really my favorite Asian cuisine. Problem is there's nary a one... No wait! There used ta be one in Magnolia (the ritzy part of this burb)west of Interbay... Up and over the hill, then down into the guts of Magnolia. The 'village' of magnolia...
Bookstore, bakery, post office, eye-doc, dentist, Starbucks on TWO corners! A former state liquor store, an Italian restaurant...gas station (expensive, branded gas), two luncheonettes, Greek joint, dry-cleaners, Bartells drugs, and liquor store!
Hardware store, swimming pool, two chain grocers, elementary school, and very expensive apartments, and extremely exclusive housing!
Think I'll hafta check out that Thai place again!
