Customer accidentally shot at Silver City gun shop in stable condition

By Benjamin Fisher/bfisher@scsun-news.com

SILVER CITY A 65-year-old man is in stable condition Tuesday afternoon after being accidentally shot at a gun shop on Hudson Street in Silver City.

Silver City Police Chief Ed Reynolds said an employee at Copper County Sporting Arms was unloading a .45 caliber handgun when the weapon went off and hit the customer in the back.

Emergency responders from the Silver City Police Department, the Grant County Sheriff's Department, the Silver City Fire Department, and Gila Regional Medical Center arrived on the scene and blocked off Hudson Street from College Avenue to Broadway so that a helicopter could land on Hudson Street to airlift the victim to an El Paso hospital for treatment. The chopper landed in front of the Chevron station on Hudson and took off at 10:40 a.m. for El Paso. No names are being released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, Reynolds said, and it is unclear whether any charges will be filed.

A person who answered the phone at Copper Country declined to talk to the Sun-News on Tuesday.

More information will be released as it becomes available. Keep up with the story at www.scsun-news.com.

Benjamin Fisher can be reached at (575) 538-5893 ext. 5803.

PS: The guy probably won't sue because he is one of us and, after all, he was in a gub store. You have to expect this kind of freak accident to happen when you go into a gub store! I mean, he got in front of the bullet, you know, if you think about it.

Snippy, I believe you're right, as a gub lover, he knows and understands and supports the right to bear arms. Part of that support and, dare I say, innate understanding, leads him to believe that gubs need to be tested occasionally. It was an effective and necessary test and I'm sure he realizes that, after some reflection.

MIR+ gubs= freak accident...for some. Tuesday was under the
Sun square Neptune aspect. Somebody wasnt thinking to clearly
about what they were doing, also getting shot in the back has to
be a Sun/Neptune thing. Havent done any research into the persons
shot in the back over time to see if the Sun/Neptune aspect is present.
Could show up in a natal chart maybe. Shooting someone in the back
is supposed to be "taboo" somehow but yet it still goes on. The one
shot dint know what hit him (because the victum has no eyes in the
back of his head). That the Neptune "effect".

Will there be an investigation? Will the testing employee still be employed? Will the victim be a return shopper? So many questions.

Damn, TW5k got to Bonjovi before Snippy could.

You were just shot in the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just listen to me
Don't blame the gub, Bub
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
