Elvis's gal that is... Ms.Costello, AKA: Diana Krall. The singer, pianist, songstress... Her latest album's just been released and is pretty damn good, and it's vinyl!

She appeared on Letterman the other night, and she'll be in British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba, which means Thunderman has a chance ta see and hear Diana...

How the hell do you rate six (6) weeks vacation? The most we ever get is five (5) weeks total... With maybe three personal days after 25 years!

I knew I shoulda migrated ta "The GREAT White North"! Dammit!

Diana Krall. AKA: Mrs. Elvis Costello. (Cockney Cocksucker!)

My passport's expired... And it'll take a couple weeks ta get the renewal... I sent it in yesterday in fact!

Once that little item comes my way...a trip to "The Great Whit North" is possible. But by then, Diana may be back east on tour!

Uke, she's Mrs. Macmanus number 3, perhaps you can be Mr. Krall number two if you play it smart.

Nah... While I do admire her, and enjoy listening to her voice, and the way she phrases ...and her piano skills...her compositions, she's much too...outa my league!

I may be old, and I may be a fool, but I ain't an old fool! Her version of "Peel me a Grape" is just great! It's off one of her earliest albums...

While many of her albums are all original songs written by her, the other members of her group do offer suggestions, and she does cover some classics, and Jazz standards. She's a very entertaining presence, and I do ove her!

Gotta be honest, I never heard of her until your first post. I've learned more about different present day music here at BurningJournaldotcom than anywhere else.

When I came back from my overseas assignment...in 1990, I lived in Krinkville. I didn't know Krink then.

But I was tuned on to KPLU-FM 88.5 an NPR affiliate, whose claim ta fame was its DJs...who played nothing but Jazz, and Blues! I still listen to that station, as does Krink... One of the original DJs, Dick Stein is still with 'em, and does a morning show from 0900-1200 weekdays. The afternoon half from 1200-1500 was taken over by a gal named Robin Lloyd, who opens her show with a Blues thing called "The Blue Plate Special."

Weekends... The operation is news and music... Mostly Jazz...and "All Blues" from six ta midnight Saturdays, and Sundays... A variety for sure! There's also a show called "Art of Jazz," which airs Sunday afternoons. The host Ken Wiley plays some really old vinyl, and hard pressed 78s, from his own extensive collection. This guy has music that dates back to the earlies days of recorded Jazz...maybe the 1920s on... And he knows his history!

Listening ta these shows... You learn about the artists, their bands, their solo careers... Where they came from, and more!

And from what I gather... There is no other Jazz station anywhere in the USA, that can touch KPLU! They've won hundreds of awards, and can be heard around the globe via satellite, and streamed over the internets.

But I digress... Back ta Ms. Krall, or Mrs. Costello... I heard her listening to KPLU many years ago...when she first became a presence down here. They played a few songs from her early albums, and she gained a following, playing small clubs in Vancouver, and Bellingham, and Seattle. I've seen her in Seattle twice... And both times the shows were sold out!

She's that good!

Uke...if I was still collecting music (in its physical form like something you
can hold in your hands, touch, look at, and most importantly...play" I'm
sure I'd have some Diana Krall in my collection. Very fimiliar with her
recordings. Nope...no more trips to the record/CD/tapes store for me.
I'm fully dependent now on the best jazz/radio station on the air.
I find ways to "fill" the NPR timeslot late afternoons with my "tapes"
so the music goes from jazz at 3PM to a Brave New Waves show
from 1991. I think very few here just understood what I just said.
Brave New Waves came on Sunday thru Thursday nites, 23:00hrs
and was a 6 hour show for many years. Later it was a 12:06AM to
4AM. I recorded a shitload of Brave New Waves shows on cassette
tape. When I was working nights at the bridge, I would program
my VCR to record the show. Had my reciever on a timer to come
on at prescribed time and just record the audio on my VCR. VHS
tape has always been great for audio recording at EP speed.
Sounds stupid copying VHS onto a cassette but I did so alot.
I got a lot of radio shows on tape.
