Big-ass megaproject done by GazProm the biggest natural gas company in the world. Check it out. Never seen anything like it in the lower 48! (Perhaps Alaska Railroad) But this project is huge!

Gazprom owns, operates, and controls every aspect of the project, beginning to...well end. They've spent tens of billions of rubles since they started under the old Soviet regime during the 1980s.

Construction was halted midway through for a variety of reasons. A couple reasons had to do with native populations who'd been living 'traditional" lives all along the peninsula for a few thousand years.

Apparently the whole project is now complete. And the old Siberia will never be the same.

The Nenets (and other native peoples) carry on in spite of the changes.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nenets_people
