Dr. Byron Boyd is a native of Houghton, Michigan. He received a B.A. with a major in philosophy from Michigan State University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a concentration in modern European history. His dissertation, "Rudolf Virchow: The Scientist as Citizen" was published by Garland in 1990. He is the head of the history department at the Savannah Country Day School and is currently doing research on the career of the baseball executive Branch Rickey.
