Local (Pinellas County, FL) news item, Snippy will want one:

The new rugs rolled out at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office administration building sure looked nice while they lasted.

They were a nice addition to the front entrance-- bright green with the sheriff's bold, yellow emblem.

But there's one major problem.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The saga of the "In Dog We Trust" rug at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has ended as the rug has been sold through an online auction for $9,650.

The winner, who is from Florida, wants to remain anonymous and is a supporter of law enforcement and dogs.

The sheriff's office said the proceeds will go to a local animal rescue group.

The rug was supposed to say, "In God We Trust." Instead, a mispelling made it, "In Dog We Trust."

The sheriff's office held an online auction for the rug that started Thursday and ended today. The site attracted 30,980 hits and there were 83 bids.

The unintentional tribute to the K-9 unit sat in the sheriff's office lobby for months, until a deputy noticed the misprint, according to Cristen Smith, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

The rug was removed Jan. 14 and the sheriff's office verified that the original proof featured the correct spelling.

According to Smith, they are working with the rug manufacturer, American Floor Mats, to replace the $500 rug.
