Wasco County, and the Columbia river Gorge Protection Commission has officially, and likely permanently killed UP's track expansion plans through the Gorge. Is it a 'done deal,' as they say? It's doubtful as we go to press. But going by what the governors of TWO states rule, it might as will be taken at face value:

More or less the same story, slightly different angle. Sort of

Didn't the dropout, HHB, operate through there?

Speaking of dropouts, is Bucket still breathing?

HHB has stated that his priors (Rights over Southern Pacific routes)* which allow him to run from Albina Yard (North Portland) to Eugene Yard (OR), and return. HHB owns a pool job between those two points. He may not be forced to take other jobs, unless there is a proven emergency elsewhere on the UP  system in Oregon.

Uncle Pete is unlikely to violate their own operating rules while sufficient numbers of crews are available to cover vacant positions during emergencies!

(HHB has further stated that he also reserves the right to refuse the training of trainee engineers!)*

Buckethead's current status (living or dead) is unknown! Sorry. (Updates as they become known, or not!)

The BNSF across the Mighty Columbia River on the WA side can run 50-60 trains
a day on "single track".
