I think I finally found a picture of Snippy's first paid trip as an engineer.  Check out that stovepipe top hat he chose for the occasion.

That would have been an upgrade over long-hooding the SOU3901L with oil all over the window.

The most deplorable of the thoroughly deplorable U23Bs.

Snippy's real first trip?  Did Snippy wear a top hat for the occasion?  POS engine, that's for sure.

That SOU U23B would be a worthy unit to take a picture of back in the day.
Back in the day I took a roster shot of MILW 4800 at Tacoma early 1970's.
I like low-hoods and you like high-hoods. Apples and Oranges. Never heard
how the MILW hogs liked/disliked running them. MILW never ran any U23B's
up to Bellingham to my knowledge which would be a perfect place for them.
Instead they re-assigned most of the SDL-35's to the Tacoma-Bellingham-Sumas
trains. It was really one hell of a decade in Bellingham with the MILW gaining
trackage rights due to the BN merger 1970-1980. Every GE unit MILW had on
the roster made it up to Bellingham/Sumas at one time or another except the
U23B. I had to go find one.
