Listening to BNSF scanner I hear AMTK 517 (Vancouver BC-Seattle) calling BR37
just after noon (3hrs late) asking if their "headlight" was working. Said they "hit something"
and I never heard what but I'm guessing a mudslide or something and made it through it...
just a guess. The AMTK headlight was indeed "out/broke" and had to run the rest the way to
Seattle at reduced speed. Then a few hours later I hear a new crew show up at Lowell to take
an empty coal train east and get the OK to go. The BNSF North Branch Disp "Mary" says we got
problems on the hill at Merritt which is the begining of 2.2% WB over Stevens Pass and snowing
like a bastard with 2ft deep already. Sounded like 2 WB BNSF hotshots a Q and a Z with engine
issues or one had issues so the other couldnt go anywhere. Mary says light power has left Wenatchee
to give one or both trains a push up Stevens and it will an hour or more. So Mary then tell the new crew
on the empty coal at Lowell that you are now going to dogcatch one of the 2 trains at Merrit. Thats going
to be one long-haul van ride to remember over Stevens Pass on "Hiway 2". So things happening.

The big story of Feb 17 and the celestial aspects is a derailment on Tehachapi. You know that caused problems.

Pretty boring day on the rails as we close in on the ned of February 2018. Absolutely no deaths or major incidents out there. At all. Amtrak has a two day safety record as we open March, although that may change this week

Major freight railroads seem to be closing out this month with a record month of revenue ton-miles, and no serious (expensive) claims for damages. Yet.

Reportable injuries are on the decline as well. All in all, we're off to a 'good,' but not great start to 2018.

However boring things around the railroads may be, up to this point, let's not lose hope. With the planetary chaos impending, the shit as they say, is about to hit the fan!

March 1st and a quick look around the industry we all know and ove, every last one of us, and hayters tu!

And another day of boredom out there on the 'road. Not a thing tu get excited about. which may be a good thing, or not.
But it sure doesn't help this phorum. Nope. What we need is a good disaster like a derailment, where a whole bunch of
cars 'jump' off the tracks, then roll off a big ol' cliff, into the ocean, or a river. And the railroad suffers a huge loss!

We don't need any crew members, or MOW guys, or anybody else being hurt, or dying. Just a good old regular crash!

Keep yer eyes and ears open gang, and REPORT any incident involving trains, or railroad schitt right here! We'll post!

File under celestial aspects Sun conjunct Neptune/Mercury conjunct Venus the big Nor'easter
and some fierce winds the weekend of Mar 3-4. Wind gusts blew a few cars of a CSX train off
a bridge and into the river below.

Same aspects Sun conjunct Neptune/Mercury conjunct Venus in a derailment in Centralia WA
between a BNSF train and a UP train March 5th. UP gets the worst of it with 10 cars on the ground
and BNSF 1 car.

UH-OH. Who's protecting THAT shove?

A BNSF train was slowly moving in reverse when it collided with a Union Pacific freight train entering the Centralia rail yard.

Hey...it's BNSF's yard, they don't need to protect their own trains while operating in their own damn yards! Stop trying to stir shit by laying blame on the number 2 #two BIG railroad in Merca! Trouble maker! Yer BAND! Mister!

What I'm hearing is that this is one of those freakishly odd events in railroading. Apparently the recently marked up BNSF engineer did a 6.6 on main 1 to pick up his conductor after a setout in Centralia Yard. But his train was a bit longer than the track space and he backed up just enough to tap the UP Soybean train and knock a car off the tracks on both trains, but did not break the trainline air. The BNSF train took off but then lost the air a mile or so up the tracks. Meanwhile the UP engineer reported that he was having to pull harder than he should have. He stopped to have his conductor go look for the problem. A northbound coal train on main 2 first saw the UP derailment and then stopped short of the derailed flatcar on the BNSF train that was also blocking main 2. The coal train had been running at restricted speed after being informed of the other train having lost it's air and was unable to recover. A good thing that they were!
