Ugh, 50 years, I just can't imagine why you'd want to do that. I like how he says he's been #1 for so long, Cy would be #1 in his terminal at the end of this month when a guy who was 7 years younger than Cy retires. But not #1 on the roster, not by a long shot, the #1 guy is 79 years old and he's got 60 years, tu.

But, don't forget, we have a railroad volunteer right here at bj.com, LLC

Also, remember that working for free is better than working for less money (by 10s of thousands) than you would get retired. We have at least 10 here that are doing that.

Back in the days of clerks and oprs you could find a few 50yr employees.
That will not happen ever again in the history of time. Maybe Iron Chink
can help me with this one...Conductor Berget "Bergie" ran the BN Bham
Sub well into his 70's I think. Fell asleep in the caboose a lot. Remember
tossing the orders on the back porch of the caboose because Bergie was asleep.
Wake him up on the radio for a "soup ticket".

You know Krink, Bergie sounds familiar but I can't quite place the guy.
I do remember Pork Chops never missed out on any beauty sleep during his career.
How many years did Leo Fyrk have in when he retired?
I agree with some of the bj.com guys above. 50 years is insanity.

Leo went out with 51 total certifiable years, dating back to the GN where he started, and worked his way up. Brake man, fireman, hogger. Steam, and ran early GN electrics, early diesels. When he retired BN was mostly (Former GN lines) running SD-40s.

Fifty-one years!  Still married to his original wife tu!

Actually UKE, the Leo Fyrk I was referring to was a clerk in Bellingham,Wa's freight office (Foot of "D" street)
GN / BN legacy. Don't believe I've met the Hoghead / Fireman "Leo" your referring to. But, A long varied career to be proud of.
Lot's of good stories to tell at the Ol' Watering Hole..

Almost forgot about Interbay's own RoHo clerk Bob.(Can't recall his last name right now), but he retired in 2011 with 51 years at Interbay. He knew stuff nobody else knew. He had dirt on everybody in every position of 'leadership', like foremen, and generals, and superintendents.

He might've dropped the dime on any one of 'em at any time. But he never calledhis favers in. Just kepr his shit in a little black book. He waltzed outa there, and never looked back. A really, really good dude!

His main goal the last few years was making sure his son completed college with a degree, so the kid would never, ever have to work for the railroad!

Don't know where they are now.
