Phila. Area Retired Policeman Dies In Accident

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP)

Bucks County Coroner Joseph Campbell says a retired policeman accidentally killed himself while trying to shoot a snapping turtle behind his home.

The body of retired Bensalem Officer Kevin Lawler was found behind his Northampton home Thursday afternoon.

Campbell says it looks like Lawler was trying to shoot the turtle when he slipped on logs and accidentally shot himself in the chest.

Northampton Township Police Chief M. Barry Pilla says Lawler was trying to get the turtle out of a brook behind his home because he was concerned about the safety of ducklings there.

If he'd have been a tin man, he'd be in the clear. If the bullet penetrated his tin, he wouldn't have had a heart to shoot. Perhaps the turtle dined well?
