Government figures show US Airways has sharply reduced the number of mishandled bags at Philadelphia International Airport.
The U.S. Department of Transportation says the airline had 19 mishandled-bag reports per 1,000 passengers in Philadelphia for the three months ending June 30. That's compared to 39 a year earlier.
US Airways has spent more than $20 million since 2006 to fix what had become persistent complaints about baggage.
Among other changes, the airline now has a different crew handle baggage for connecting flights than the crew handling local bags, cargo and mail.
