Wow! Flash from the past....I was a wee small one last time I was in a real 5 and dime.
My brother and I used to like the way the floor squeaked when you walked over it. Everybody in the store knew where you were by the noise. Corse, us kids always got "the Look" from running back and forth  
The Ben Franklin from my home town closed down in the 60's.
Long as I can remember it was just the one old guy who ran it there...like Mr Whipple.
