So, is Uke updating to one of these marketing gimmicks? If not, what's the point of posting the story? Just wondered.

Sprint. Then there's all the no-contract outfits. Actually, there's a lot of them. Several seem to use the Sprint network, spotty service in large parts of the country, it seems. There's the Straight Talk deals from your friendly local Walmart but it's there.  Some of those also run on Sprint networks, although there's a few options for phones that work off the AT&T and Verizon networks.  Even AT&T and Verizon have some pay-as-you-go plans but they're limited on GB use with smartphones, if you're so inclined.

Also, my figures were for two phones and two GBs per month. And all those taxes and fees. You could do it cheaper.

I believe that Pipes and Snippy are real authorities.

Diggin' in... Found that four of 'em are THE heavies...

Largest U.S. wireless providers

The top wireless telecommunications facilities-based service providers in the United States are, from greatest to smallest by current subscribers: [1]

Of these, AT&T and T-Mobile use the GSM standard, while Verizon and Sprint use CDMA, all are currently rolling out networks using LTE as their future standard. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile each operate nationwide wireless networks which cover most of the population in the United States. The smaller carriers provide native network coverage across selected regions of the United States while supplementing nationwide coverage through roaming agreements with other carriers.

_____________________________________________________________________________

The Jitterbug cell-fone thingie hitches on Verizon... They pay for that, and I pay part of that with my "plan" which is a 1500 any time minutes. Seems pretty decent so far... But when I forget where it is, the battery dies, and no phone!

Then I remembered...

Thousands, even if you go cheap. I was weakening but it's a whole lotta dough. It's nearly $4,000 for two years, to sign a contract, two phones, sticking with the (admittedly) reliable carrier.

Seriously? Jeezuss! That's some serious moolah, which includes the phone, texting, and talking, and internets, all kindsa data (pichers, music, pron, and other schitt) that ya can't get if ya don't pay a contract.

I wonder about "deals" from the carriers... Who's left out there... AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and who else? Never really dug deeply enough ta buy in... Mainly because I hate yakkin' on a cell phone ta begin with.

Then there's this: Nobody wants ta talk ta me anyway! I bought in because of all the shit this gang was giving me
over my not being able ta call 'em from the road... SummiTen drove that fact home!
