Delving deep into mechanics, and focusing on the joy of real world 'problem solving' was what IT was all about

http://www.foxnews.com/auto/2017/04/25/zen-and-art-motorcycle-maintenance-author-robert-m-pirsig-dead-at-88.html

Perfectly applied to locomotives tu. Size has no relevance when troubleshooting, then actually 'fixing' the problem. Therein lies the joy!

"Silence of the Lambs" director Jonathan Demme passes... Throat cancer

Jonathan Demme, director of Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, and Rachel Getting Married, died on Wednesday at 73 following complications due to esophageal cancer. But long before he won an Oscar for Silence of the Lambs, Demme got his start like so many other filmmakers  by working with B-movie king Roger Corman. Demme began his career in the early 1970s making low-budget B movies with titles like The Hot Box (which he produced) and Caged Heat (his directorial debut, image below), and spent those early years honing his craft and learning valuable lessons that would pay off decades later.

Helluva way to go... A Seattle pal "Tugboat Tom" Kinnecutt lost his fight with esophageal cancer in 2011. Dude was a smoker, and a welder at a boatyard on the canal. Also the LC of IAM at Foss marine.

There Went Bronson.

NEW YORK Michael Parks, a prolific character actor who found early fame in 1960s countercultural roles and later became a favorite of directors including Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith, has died. He was 77.

He died on Tuesday in Los Angeles, his agent, Jane Schulman, said on Wednesday. No cause of death was announced.

In a career that spanned six decades, Parks acted in more than 100 films and TV shows. Many of his early starring roles were in anti-establishment '60s-era films such as "Wild Seed," ''The Happening," with Anthony Quinn, and "Bus Riley's Back in Town," alongside Ann-Margret.

Moore. Roger Moore.

Roger Moore, the actor best known for his stint playing James Bond in the 1970s and 80s, has died. He was 90 years old. In a statement, his family said Moore died after a short but brave battle with cancer.
Moore played the archetypal super-spy starting in the 1970s, when he took the lead role from Sean Connery in Live and Let Die. He ended his run in 1985 with A View to a Kill.
The actor also starred in British TV shows The Saint, and The Persuaders! In later life, he dedicated his time to philanthropy, becoming a UNICEF ambassador.

Rome (AFP) -

American World Superbike rider Nicky Hayden, hit by a car in a bicycle accident in Italy last week, has died of his injuries, the Italian hospital where he was treated said Monday.

Hayden, 35, who won the 2006 MotoGP world title, suffered severe chest and head injuries in the accident, which happened while he was training on his bicycle in central Italy, south of the seaside resort of Rimini.

Photographs published by local media outlets after Wednesday's crash showed substantial damage to the front windscreen of the car and the bicycle.

Hayden, nicknamed "The Kentucky Kid", raced for Honda in MotoGP from 2003 to 2015, before moving to the Superbike World Championship for the 2016 season.

Hayden won just three grands prix in MotoGP -- all in 2005-06 -- but he famously took the world title that season after fighting tooth-and-nail with Valentino Rossi's Yamaha.

His death comes exactly a month after veteran Italian professional cyclist Michele Scarponi was killed after being hit by a van while out on a training ride on roads near his home.

Honda teammate Stefan Bradl said he was "deeply touched and saddened".

"It was an honor to share the garage with you. My thoughts are with his family. We will never forget you #69 RIP."

Dani Pedrosa, Hayden's teammate in 2006 when he won the world title, posted a photo on twitter of the American along with the words "Always in my heart, champ. RIP Nicky. #69."

Honda added: "Nicky passed away at 19:09 CEST this evening at Maurizio Bufalini Hospital in Cesena, Italy. His fiancee Jackie, mother Rose and brother Tommy were at his side.

"Throughout his career Nickys professionalism and fighting spirit was greatly valued and carried him to numerous successes, including his childhood dream of being crowned MotoGP World Champion with Honda in 2006.

"As well as being a true champion on the track, Nicky was a fan favourite off it due to his kind nature, relaxed demeanour, and the huge smile he invariably carried everywhere.

"Nothing says more about Nickys character than the overwhelming response expressed by fellow racers and his legions of fans over the past few days. Jackie and his family are truly grateful for the countless prayers and well wishes for Nicky."

Hayden's brother Tommy added: "Although this is obviously a sad time, we would like everyone to remember Nicky at his happiest riding a motorcycle. He dreamed as a kid of being a pro rider and not only achieved that but also managed to reach the pinnacle of his chosen sport in becoming World Champion. We are all so proud of that.

"Apart from these public memories, we will also have many great and happy memories of Nicky at home in Kentucky, in the heart of the family. We will all miss him terribly."

Gregg Allman Dead at 69

By Devon Ivie

Gregg Allman, the co-founder of the legendary southern rock band the Allman Brothers Band, has died at the age of 69, Billboard reports. The cause of death has yet to be specified, although in recent weeks Allman was suffering from unknown medical issues that required him to be at home in Savannah resting on my doctors orders. The singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist is perhaps best known for his work in the Allman Brothers Band, which he formed with his brother, Duane, who tragically passed away at the age of 24. Throughout the 1970s, the group achieved vast mainstream success with songs that included Ramblin Man, Straight From the Heart, and Crazy Love.

Gregg struggled with many health issues over the past several years, a statement on his official website reads. During that time, Gregg considered being on the road playing music with his brothers and solo band for his beloved fans, essential medicine for his soul. Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times.

This is a breaking news post, and will be updated when more information becomes available.
